Execution of Boxers after the failed Boxer rebellion in 19th century China. The Boxers - or the Militia United in Righteousness - were against foreign imperialism and specifically Christian missionary activity. After the rebellion failed anyone who was suspected of being a Boxer was executed.

The above photograph illustrates one of the more cruel execution methods. The individual’s feet rests pieces of wood or stone, and these are slowly removed over the course of a few days. A piece of rope is also tied around the individuals neck ,and as each piece is removed the tension increases. When the person is no longer able to stand the individual’s neck will break or they will slowly be strangled to death.
