During the Middle Ages, when a member of a parish died, they were to be transported to the church for burial. As communities became more spread out, corpse roads were born. These roads were often winding and meandering due to the paranormal belief that spirits could travel in straight lines and therefore travel back and haunt their hometown. Of course many of these corpse roads have disappeared into history, however some still remain in the UK and the Netherlands.
